Ben – Seaman – VI

“There is a land of the living and a land of the dead and the bridge is love, the only survival, the only meaning.” -Thornton Wilder

“Who are we and what are we doing here?” is a question implicit with compassion. “The central feature of human existence is its occurrence in a linguistic cognitive domain.” is a statement (in my opinion) taken from the land of the dead. Perhaps there is no essential distinction between”numbers” and operations on numbers, but computers have more to do with “on and off” than they have to do with numbers. Anyone who has ever felt the uniquely human capacity of love can testify there is no distinct instance of on, or off…

We are teetering at the brink of the development of a physical set of code potentials brought about through nanotechnology, advanced forms of biotechnonolgy, and (the terabyte chip, and beyond) quantum computing.

Of course, though we sit comfortably discussing the theoretical implications of a discussion at least one year behind the daily breakthroughs of generously funded research laboratories, none of us can be held personally responsible for the fragrance of what’s coming down the pipe, but nobody can say we weren’t warned.

Hybrid functionalities will indeed be both intentionally and unintentionally spawned…
