DC_Unit 6_Utterback

All of the examples listed in the essay and in the corresponding responses are absolutely wonderful and fantastic. With that said they are all about the interface and not about the text. A poem can stand alone without the interface and each of the interfaces would be as effective with different words. An example would be Text Rain, this would be a fabulous interactive tool for children. Kids could learn their ABC's by catching and holding the appropriate letter. The interface hasn't lost anything by changing the concept of the text. I'm not sure why it's more important for this poem to flow down than any other type of text message that could flow down. The art appears to be in the interface not in the text, just as a beautifully sculpted marble arch still functions as an arch. This beautifully crafted digital interface still functions as an interface. The poem on its own may be beautiful but it gets lost in the digital rain translation. Maybe this is because it is the novelty of the interface that draws our attention and not the actual text message the artist is trying to convey.

When integrating poem and new technology together, different key features will be draw out for the purpuse. Literally poem can stand alone without the interface. However, the new technology can bring in different physical and virtual expereinces of interaction with the texts.
